So you have been using Twitter for a while now and you have read all of my beginner’s tips and got your head properly around using it for marketing and communications purposes. You are engaging in regular conversations and you have even taken some of the relationships offline and had a drink or a coffee with people. Congratulations, but what’s next? How can you use Twitter to develop your business or help your client with his/her next campaign and get the most from social media marketing?Straw Poll

Well why not do the best thing possible and crowd source something by using a simple Twitter poll? People (your followers) don’t mind giving you their opinion that’s what social networking is all about but your poll must be nice and simple, in other words it shouldn’t take too long to complete.

If you are thinking about writing a poll here are some useful tips on how to write your poll questions.

There is quite a wide variety of poll twitter apps out there the question is which is the best and easiest to use. I have put some to the test and here are my results.

  1. Straw Poll -  As you can see this is very pretty service with a great graphical layout. You do have to register with your username and password and then you can create your poll. The only drawback here is that it seems to just offer two responses which I think could be limited.image
  2. Polldaddy – This is a very simple to use service as you don’t need to register at all, you simply set your question and select how many answers you want. When you are done you click Share Poll to Twitter and you watch it go.
  3. Twitpoll – This isn’t as pretty as some of the others but it has similar functionality and there is a video demo to tell you how to create your poll.
  4. Poll Pigeon – This site is a fun looking site that integrates with good old Facebook Connect and Twitter it is pretty simple to use and the most Poll your followersinteresting polls get placed on the main homepage.
  5. Pollyourfollowers – Now this little Twitter app is probably the most simple in design and functionality and that is why I like it. No bells and whistles just straight down into question, answers and share – nice app.

Two which didn’t make my top five but are useful alternatives

  1. Twittpoll – This service doesn’t look or feel as good as some of the Twittpollbetter ones. To create a poll you have to suggest a poll to the team by email which feels a little dated to me. However, you can get involved in other people’s poles and share your opinion.
  2. http://polls.tw/ – Strange name but a very simple application.
