People now using Twitter to book their holidays

I have just read an interesting article on Travel Mole, which has clip_image001highlighted that more and more people are using Twitter to book their travel details.

The new study revealed that 52% tweeted between four and 10 times a day, with more than a quarter sending more than 10 Twitter updates daily.

The theory behind this research is that company directs, hotel owners are all actively using Twitter to create stronger relationships with their customers. Well firstly, they would be right to use Twitter for this as the best companies out there are using Twitter as a customer relationship tool.

The survey, which did only question 90 Twitter users, who tweeted about travel issues was conducted by popular travel blogger Andy Jarosz.

Phil Davies writes in his Travel Mole article:

Of particular interest is the amount of travelling done by the sample (62% travelling internationally three or more times a year) and the fact that more than 60% used Twitter to connect with local suppliers, hoteliers or transport companies before they travelled, with 28.8% reporting that they made a reservation following an initial contact on Twitter.

I think liaising with a travel company or hotel on Twitter is a great idea as I suppose you can have a conversation and ask any questions you need to ask. The best companies using Twitter are those that are monitoring and engaging with people that mention a brand. I recently wrote a tweet saying: “I can’t get that 118 247 tune out of my head from his morning”. Two minutes later I received an @reply from the cartoon character from the TV ad saying: “Yeah that happens!” genius customer service and a great example of how to engage properly.
